Pecan pie is my dad’s love language. If you ever need to bribe Greg, now you know how. Pecan pie is a Southern delicacy—like sweet potato pie, but better. This homemade pecan pie recipe will fill your kitchen with warmth and goodness. Don’t be afraid to use it as a bargaining chip either—it’s been known to work wonders!

Pecan Pie Recipe + Homemade Pie Crust

Ingredients for Pie Crust:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons frozen butter
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons cold water

Ingredients for Pecan Pie Filling:

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • ½ cup maple syrup
  • ¼ cup organic sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (plus an extra splash for fun)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 ½ cup pecan halves

Instructions for Pie Crust:

  1. Prepare the Butter: Grate the frozen butter into a bowl and place it back in the freezer while you prepare the other ingredients.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Add the frozen, shredded butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry blender or a fork, mix the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add Water: Add cold water to the flour mixture one tablespoon at a time, mixing with a fork after each addition until the dough just holds together.
  4. Shape and Chill: Shape the dough into a ball, wrap it in saran wrap, and let it rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes or overnight if prepping ahead.

5. Roll Out the Dough: Once rested, roll the dough out to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Place the crust in the pie plate and set aside.

Instructions for Pecan Pie Filling:

  1. Arrange Pecans: Line the bottom of the prepared pie crust with pecan halves.
  2. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Prepare Filling: In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Remove from heat and whisk in the maple syrup, sugar, vanilla, and eggs. Be sure to whisk constantly to prevent the eggs from cooking.
  4. Fill the Pie: Carefully pour the egg mixture over the pecans in the pie crust.
  5. Bake: Bake for 1 hour or until the pie is set and the top is golden.
  6. Cool: Allow the pie to cool on a wire rack. Serve with whipped cream on top for the ultimate dessert!
